Rabbit-style toys were, at one point, synonymous with sex toys overall. Along with the Magic Wand, they were just what people thought of when they pictured a sex toy. Now, the market is way more diverse, and rabbit toys aren’t as much of a focus for production and innovation.

For those wondering what rabbits have to do with any of this, here’s a quick overview.

Rabbit-style toys refer to dual-stimulation toys designed for simultaneous vaginal and clitoral stimulation. Vibratex first popularized the style, and an early Sex in the City episode contributed to its continued popularity, too. They’re called rabbit-style vibrators because the original ones actually had a rabbit shape on them — the two ears stimulated the clitoris, while the internal vaginal arm looked like a dick.

But rabbit-style vibrators (including the one popularized on SITC) weren’t typically made with body-safe materials. They were usually made from jelly latex, a porous material that degrades over time and can irritate the body.

“Rabbit-style” toys today usually don’t involve components that look like rabbits. They’ve just retained the name because it’s familiar. In reality, they’re just dual-stimulation toys, usually with one or two vibrating motors.

That’s where the Womanizer DUO is different. The internal arm does vibrate, but the external clitoral stimulator uses air pulsation technology — the same thing that powers the suction toys that Womanizer is known for. It’s also made entirely out of body-safe materials (primarily silicone, with some ABS plastic components). This dual stimulation toy doesn’t just stimulate two parts of your body; it stimulates each part in different ways.

It’s also high-powered, decently adjustable, and, in my opinion, very worth the money — read on for why I’m so into it.

Just to say it: Womanizer’s brand name sucks. It sucked when they first launched and it sucks now. People of any gender with a vulva can use and enjoy their products, and maybe one day they’ll rebrand with a new name (but honestly, I wouldn’t bet on it — when people think of air pulsation toys, they think of Womanizer).

How the Womanizer DUO Is Advertised

Category

The Womanizer DUO is a dual stimulation toy based off of a rabbit-style toy design. Typically, rabbit-style toys focus solely on vibrations, but DUO has two different types of stimulation: an external air pulsation “mouth” and an internal vibrating arm.

Price

At $219, the Womanizer DUO is situated solidly in the luxury market. However, with a luxury price tag also comes a luxury warranty — Womanizer has a five-year warranty on all of their toys when you purchase from them or from an authorized retailer. As a heads-up, Amazon and eBay are not authorized retailers (and I don’t recommend buying sex toys from them, anyway).

If you have a Student Beans account, you can also get 20% off Womanizer products, which is kinda bonkers.

For a sex toy, $219 is high. But for a dual stimulation toy made from body-safe materials, it’s actually pretty average, especially when you consider that there are two different types of stimulation and motors at play here.

To compare, the lowest-cost toy in Womanizer’s line (the Starlet) runs $79, while the Womanizer Premium and Premium Eco run $199 each. All three are just air pulsation toys that don’t include an internal stimulation arm.  The Nova 2 by We-Vibe (who has the same parent company as Womanizer) is a dual stimulation toy that only has vibrations, and that runs $149. Meanwhile, the Lora DiCarlo Osé 2 runs $290 and offers a one-year warranty. The closest comparison would probably be Fun Factory’s Bi Stronic Fusion ($199), because it has the “rabbit” shape but offers two different stimulation types (internal thrusting and external vibration).

So, as a toy overall, DUO is near the top edge of the price market (excluding super-luxury toys). But for a dual stimulation toy with two different functions, it’s solidly average.

Materials & Design

DUO is made primarily of medical-grade silicone, meaning it’s non-porous and able to easily be cleaned, but you shouldn’t use silicone or hybrid lubricants with it. It also has ABS plastic components (another body-safe material) — the ABS plastic sections are inside the toy and only accessible when you remove the air pulsation head for cleaning. It comes in four different colors: blueberry (navy), raspberry (pink), black, and bordeaux (maroon).

I’m generally suspicious of dual stimulation toys because they can be really challenging to make work for your body, especially if they’re not flexible. I’m someone who believes that we should find the toys that work best for us — not force our bodies to fit the toys we buy.

The Womanizer DUO is decently flexible, so you do get a bit more control here. Still, it has a specific shape that may not work for the layout of your genitals. I found that I had to insert the arm and then lightly adjust the external stimulator down to be able to reach my clit. Each time I’ve used DUO, it’s taken a minute to get it in the right position, but once it’s there, it does a decent job of staying there.

Slimmest Insertable Girth

DUO is surprisingly light-weight — it only weighs about 9 ounces out of the box. From an accessibility standpoint, DUO’s relatively low weight is a bonus. However, I wouldn’t recommend DUO to folks who need clearly-defined buttons, a remote control, or something that can be managed without having to reach your genitals.

DUO’s buttons completely blend in with the rest of the silicone, and while each one is textured differently, they’d still be challenging for most folks with visual impairments. DUO doesn’t come with a remote control or Bluetooth capability, so you also can’t control it from a distance — you have to have a hand on the toy itself to adjust the settings.

There are six buttons on DUO: the power button, a vibration pattern button, and then individual increase/decrease buttons for the suction and internal arms. Because you control the internal vibration and external suction separately, you have a lot of options for customization. In fact, there are 12 intensity levels for external stimulation and 12 intensity levels for internal stimulation, plus 10 patterns for internal stimulation, too.

It’s also completely waterproof. DUO has an IPX7 rating, which means that you can use it in the bathtub or shower if you want, and you can also submerge it to clean it (but you should not boil clean it or run it through the dishwasher, because of the electrical components). I don’t typically recommend toy cleaner, but it will make cleaning the suction part of the toy easier. Everything else can be cleaned with a basic antibacterial soap and water. DUO is rechargeable with a magnetic charger (that’s part of what makes it waterproof).

Womanizer has another product, the InsideOut, that is pretty similar to DUO. The main difference appears to be the shape of the internal stimulation arm. I’m pretty sure that DUO’s internal stimulation arm is the same as We-Vibe’s Nova 2 (again, We-Vibe and Womanizer have the same parent company). Nova 2 has a flexible internal arm, and so does DUO. Beyond the flexibility, DUO’s internal arm also is slightly curved and features a more prominent ridge-free head, which can be pleasant for folks who enjoy stimulating the front wall of the vagina (what you might know as the g-zone).

Many of Womanizer’s products, including DUO, have a feature called “Smart Silence.” It’s basically supposed to only let the toy do its thing when it’s actually touching you, but I’ve found it to be pretty inconsistent. Sometimes the Smart Silence function works, and other times, I turn the toy on and it just…goes. I’ve noticed that this usually happens when the toy is laying on my bed or my lap, even if the air pulsation part isn’t in contact with anything. You can deactivate the Smart Silence function by simultaneously holding down the + and – buttons for the external stimulation head.

DUO comes with two different size heads (a small and a medium) for the air pulsation part of the toy. Air pulsation toys work by fitting over the clitoris (or nipples, or wherever, really). Folks with larger clitorises may find that air pulsation toys feel uncomfortable for them. Because I enjoy indirect stimulation, I personally don’t mind if the toy isn’t perfectly wrapped around my clit, but we’re all different. Womanizer’s other toys also come with different-sized heads, but each one has different options and they’re not all compatible with each other.

How the Womanizer DUO Performed

Remember how I said that I’m typically suspicious of dual stimulation toys? Well, I was suspicious of DUO, too. Dual stimulation toys are often uncomfortable for me, thanks to my cranky pubic bone.

But y’all…wow. I was gifted this product, but I would absolutely pay $219 for it knowing what I know now.

The first time I used DUO, I came so intensely (twice) that I ended up just staring at my ceiling for several minutes. I like power — my go-to toy is a full-size wand vibrator — and I assumed that DUO would just be moderate all around. Again, I was wrong.

I already know that I like air pulsation toys, so I wasn’t too focused on that aspect. And honestly, the internal vibration is what really surprised me. DUO’s internal arm is flexible and nicely tapered so that it’s relatively easy to insert and adjust. The vibrations range from very light to deep and rumbly. In short, it feels really good, even considering how cranky my pubic bone and vagina overall can be.

The external air pulsation component was great, too, but I expected that — Womanizer is known for their air pulsation toys. It took a bit of adjusting for me to get the internal arm and external mouth to align properly, but once they did, I was having a pretty good time. I’ve found the battery to be long-lasting — despite using it fairly frequently, I’ve only had to charge it once.

Womanizer DUO

Every single time I’ve used this toy it has exceeded expectations, even though I now expect it to be great. It’s hard to write more about this without sounding like I’ve lost my mind, honestly. DUO very quickly worked its way into my regular toy rotation; it’s now one of my favorite go-to items.

I would recommend DUO to folks with vulvas who know that they enjoy simultaneous internal and external stimulation. I would also recommend it to folks who know that they enjoy one or the other, and are looking to experiment adding in a second layer. The slim head means that folks with vaginismus may have an easier time inserting it (try turning the vibration on a light setting and pressing it against your vaginal opening for a minute or two first). But, if you have low vision or limited reach, DUO might not be the best option for you.
